Salesforce uses Oracle to power its database. This may seem strange, considering that Salesforce and Oracle are direct competitors. But like Apple and Samsung, they have a semi-symbiotic relationship.

Salesforce also uses PostgreSQL and several other languages, but most of the platform runs on Oracle databases. Databases are areas for structured data. And databases must ensure that data can be organized, managed, and ultimately manipulated.
Databases use tables for this purpose. Most of you may already be familiar with table form. When you think about how Microsoft Excel organizes data, it’s similar to how databases organize data. There are tables, rows and all of them are contained in an organized and structured table system.
However, Excel is not a database. This is the table. Databases not only help organize and organize data through tables, they are also used to store large amounts of data for multiple users. So if you’re trying to load a 1GB file into Excel, you’re probably sitting in front of your computer forever. The database does not use a mobile system to store Excel and load data quickly.
So a database must consist of three things:
- Structured and organized using tables
- Ability to load more data than available RAM
- It can support multiple users / administrators
